The best interior design should improve the quality of our lives and of our investments. Interior design enhances quality of life when it understands and more than satisfies the practical requirements of those who will use the space; when it is flexible and organic, allowing for easy evolution as the occupants grow and change; and when it is a reflection of the owners – who they are, their values and aesthetics. As an art form, interior design is governed by the same principals as painting and sculpture, and it enriches our experience of daily life to the degree that it is based upon the thoughtful and creative manipulation of space, line, form, texture, color, light, and I would add – time. For the medium of interior design is all the stuff of life and time. This is where life and art truly meet, touching profoundly on things unseen, but keenly felt.

Through the discerning selection of objects with an intrinsic value, we use art to make art, thereby adding layers of meaning, value, and richness to an otherwise more ordinary experience. Additionally, by supporting true artists and craftsmen of all periods whenever possible, and by preserving our collective past and incorporating it into the present and the future, interior design makes a valuable contribution to the client, to others, and to the earth. In the end, we will hopefully find ourselves in possession of property, both real and otherwise, that may not only maintain its value, but perhaps, over time, also increase in value, historically, aesthetically – and financially.
